Alcor was first released under the name Blitzcalc. Same app, same developer, new name.

Alcor is a mental-math practice app for iPhone, made by one person. If something is broken, confusing, or just wrong, write to me and you will get a reply from the person who wrote the code.

I usually reply within two working days. It helps if you say which iPhone and which iOS version you are on, and — if it is a wrong answer or a strange question — what the question was.

Common questions

I paid, but Pro is not showing.

Open Settings ▸ About ▸ Restore purchases in the app, or tap Restore purchases at the bottom of the upgrade screen. If it says there is nothing to restore, you are probably signed in with a different Apple ID than the one you bought with — subscriptions belong to an Apple ID, not to a device. Sign in with that one and restore again.

How do I cancel?

Alcor cannot cancel it for you — Apple handles all subscriptions. Go to the iOS Settings app ▸ tap your name at the top ▸ Subscriptions ▸ Alcor ▸ Cancel Subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date, or before the free trial ends, to avoid being charged. You keep Pro until the end of the period you have already paid for.

I want a refund.

Refunds are Apple's to give, not mine — I never see your payment details. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com with the Apple ID you bought with.

What is free, and what is Pro?

The free app gives you five practice rounds a day, plus the daily warm-up, across the whole skill catalogue, and it keeps your progress and statistics. Pro adds the Blitz Exam, your weekly report, the Diagnosis, Review Sets, full manual mode, unlimited rounds, and the advanced statistics — the same seven the upgrade screen lists. Nothing you have already learned is ever taken away if a subscription lapses.

How do I start over?

There is no reset button — deliberately, because it is a one-tap way to destroy months of work.

Right now there is also no reliable way to do it by hand. Deleting the app and reinstalling it does not clear your progress: if you are signed in to iCloud, Alcor keeps a copy there, and the fresh install finds it and puts it back. Turning Settings ▸ iCloud sync off before you delete does not help either — a reinstall starts with sync on again, because that setting lives in the app you just deleted.

If you genuinely need a clean slate, write to me and I will sort it out with you. I would also like to know why — wanting one usually means something else went wrong first.

Will my progress move to a new iPhone?

Yes, as long as both phones are signed in to the same Apple ID and Settings ▸ iCloud sync is on — it is on by default. Alcor keeps a copy of your progress in your own iCloud account, so a new phone finds your skill levels, statistics, streaks, badges and review sets already there. There is still no account to make and no server of mine involved: the copy is yours, and I cannot read it. If you are signed out of iCloud, the app says so on that screen and keeps everything on the device instead.
